Application Introduction for Confucius Institute Scholarship, 2019

Established in 1958, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TUTCM) is one of the earliest universities of TCM in China and the only International University of TCM which is approved by State Education Committee (now Ministry of Education) in 1992. TUTCM is also the “Educational International Aid Center” and “China-ASEAN Educational Training Center” of Ministry of Education (MOE), TCM International Cooperation Center of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SATCM), the director committee member of the Education Instruction Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies(WFCMS) and WFCMS “Belt & Road” Chinese Medicine Education Teacher Training Base (Tianjin).. Adhering the motto of “strengthening moral education and pursuing academic studies, inheriting and innovating”, TUTCM has developed into a comprehensive university with key program construction and research as the advantage, TCM international education as feature, and covers extensive areas of study, namely as Medicine, Science, Arts, Management, Engineering, Education and etc.

The University has distinguished teaching faculty and sufficient resources for students’ internship. Currently it has 2 National Key Disciplines of Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Tuina and TCM Internal Medicine. The university has been selected into China first-rate university and first-rate program list and Chinese Materia Medica has been selected into Double First-rate programs in 2017. here are 3 affiliated hospitals, 4 non-direct affiliated hospitals, 119 teaching practice centers. Among them, the First Affiliated Hospital is a National TCM Clinical Research Base, the National Acupuncture Clinical Research Center, the National Acupuncture Clinical Foundation and the National Provincial Demonstration Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine; the Second Affiliated Hospital is the treatment center for Chinese medical difficult disease and has significant advantage for gynecological and encephalopathy diseases; Baokang Hospital and other teaching hospitals have unique treatment features in rehabilitation medicine, orthopedics, community health of TCM, integrative medicine and etc..

The University has extensive international exchanges and cooperation. It aims to cultivate international applied talents in clinic with solid theoretical foundation and excellent clinical skills which make it enjoy a high reputation world widely. It has formed TCM internationalization talents training system where the bachelor education is the main part .The system also covers master and doctoral education and short and long term certificate studies. Every year,there are over 2,000 international students from more than 60 countries and regions coming to study at TUTCM.

Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL) of TUTCM started in 1980s,aiming to serve for TCM degree education. It has cultivated extensive Chinese language talents with competitive Chinese competence to learn TCM degree education and having met the relevant requirements. Through many years’ development, TCFL has made great achievements. It is not only responsible for international students’ Chinese language education, but also trained qualified undergraduate and master postgraduate. It has developed comprehensive teaching system and established Confucius Classroom in Japan and Confucius Institute in Thailand.

The new campus of TUTCM is located by Tuanbo Lake in Jinghai District, Tianjin. It covers an area of 145 hectares and the building area is 483,000 square meters. The nationally largest museum of TCM, Chinese Medicine Botanical Garden, the nationally most advanced Science and Technology Park of TCM and International Education Center of TCM are all under construction in the new campus, providing a more excellent study and living environment for students.

I. Scholarship Types

1.Scholarship for Master’s Degree

2. Scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree

3. Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study

4. Scholarship for One-Semester Study

5. Scholarship for Four-Week Study

II Admission Requirements

1.Non-Chinese citizens.

2.In good Physical and mental condition, well performed both academically and behaviorally.

3.Aspired to take future careers on the teaching or international promotion of Chinese language.

4.Between the ages of 16-35 on September 1st, 2019. Applicants currently worked as Chinese language teachers shall not exceed the age limit of 45, while undergraduate students shall not exceed the age limit of 25.

5.Scholarship for Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages

Commences September 2019 and provides scholarship for maximum 2 academic years.

a.Bachelor’s Degree holder;

b.Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 in HSK test (Level 5) and score of 60 in HSKK test (Intermediate Level). Be priority if provide agreement with teaching institution which applicants will be working in after graduation, or related certification to proof the working status after graduation.

6.Scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL)

Commences September 2019 and provides scholarship for maximum 4 academic years.

  1. High school graduates;

b.Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 in HSK test (Level 4) and score of 60 in HSKK test (Intermediate Level).

7.Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study

Commences September 2019, and provides scholarship for maximum 11 months.

  1. International students currently studying in China are not eligible.

  2. Courses Requirements

a)Chinese Language Study

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 in HSK test (Level 3).

b)Chinese Language

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK test (Level 4) and 60 in HSKK test (intermediate level).

c)TCSOL

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 270 in HSK test (Level 3) and HSKK test score are required.

8.Scholarship for One-Semester Study

Commences either in September 2019 or March 2020, and provides scholarship of maximum 5 months.

  1. Applicants withholding visas X1 or X2 are not eligible.

  2. Courses Requirements

a)Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taiji Culture

HSK test (Level 2 or 3) score is required.

b)Chinese Language

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK test (Level 3) and HSKK test score are required.

c)TCSOL

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK test (Level 3) and HSKK test score are required.

9.Scholarship for Four-Week Study

Commences either in July or December of 2019, and provides a four-week scholarship.

  1. Applicants withholding visas X1 or X2 are not eligible.

  2. Courses Requirements

a)Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taiji Culture

HSK test (Level 2 or 3) score is required.

b)Special Four-week Program for Confucius Institutes (Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taiji Culture)

HSK test score are required. Organized and applied by a Confucius Institute with 10-15 participants per group

III.CHINESE BRIDGE AWARD RECIPIENT POLICIES

Chinese Bridge winners who have been awarded the 2019 “Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificate” shall log onto the scholarship website and submit documents to TUTCM upon presentation of their CIS certificates. Please contact chinesebridge@hanban.org for inquiry.

IV. Scholarship Coverage and Criteria

The Confucius Institute Full Scholarship provides coverage on tuition fee, accommodation fee, living allowance (excluding four-week study students) and comprehensive medical insurance expenses.

The living allowance criteria per person is CNY 2,500 per month forundergraduates, one-academic-year study students and one-semester students, and CNY 3,000 per month for Master’s Degree students ofTCSOL.

Comprehensive medical insurance is purchased by TUTCM in accordance with relevant regulations of studying in China stipulated by the Ministry of Education of China. Insurance fee per person is 160 CNY for four-week study students, 400 CNY for one-semester students, and 800 CNY per year for students engaged in program longer than one academic year.

V.APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Online registration will be available from March 1, 2019 on the Confucius Institute Scholarship website (http://cis.chinese.cn). Please log on to search our courses and recommending institutions. complete and submit the Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form online, and upload the scanned copies of the following supporting documents:

1.A scanned copy of the passport photo page.

2.A scanned copy of score reports of the HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-year validity).

3.A Recommendation letter by the head of the recommending institutions.

4.A certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation) and an official transcript.

5.Applicants for Master’s degree program ofTCSOLmust submit two recommendation letters signed by professors or associate professors.Be priority if provide agreement with teaching institution which applicants will be working in after graduation.

6.Applicants currently worked as Chinese language teachers shall provide the proof of employment as well as a reference letter by the employing institution.

7.Applicants under the age of 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in Tianjin, China.

Note: For the above mentioned documents, if they are not in either Chinese or English, shall provide the corresponding notarized translated documents in English version.

VI. Application Deadline

1.April 10th, 2019 (for those commencing in July 2019)

2.May 10th, 2019 (for those commencing in September 2019)

3.September 10th, 2019 (for those commencing in December 2019)

4.November 10th, 2019 (for those commencing in March 2020)

VII. Recommending Institutions:

1. Confucius Institutes and Confucius classrooms which have been in operation for more than six months. For more information, please refer to www.hanban.org.

2. Testing centers for Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) which have the right to recommend Confucius Institute Scholarship candidates. For information, please refer to www.chinesetest.cn.

3. Oversea organizers of Chinese Bridge Competition: education and cultural offices (groups) of China’s oversea embassies (consulates), Confucius Institute and relevant educational institutions. For further information, please consult chinesebridge@hanban.org.

IX. Registration

Scholarship winners need to confirm with our university to go through the procedures of studying in China, print out CIS certificate online, and complete registration at the designated date and time as the admission letter requires.

Those who failed to register on time, failed to pass the health assessment, dropped out midway and/or suspended will be deprived of scholarship.
