Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Admissions for International Students, 2023
Established in 1958, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TUTCM) has been listed as one of the co-constructed higher educations by Ministry of Education (MOE), State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SATCM) and Tianjin Municipal Government. It is the only former State Education Commission (Present MOE) approved International University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and also the hosting institution of Educational Instruction Committee, World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS), “Educational Aid Center” and “China-ASEAN Educational Training Center” of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and Ministry of Education, TCM International Cooperation Center of SATCM, and WFCMS “Belt & Road” Training Center for Chinese Medicine Education Teachers. Adhering the motto of “Strengthening moral education and pursuing academic studies, inheriting and innovating”, TUTCM has developed into a teaching and research oriented university with TCM education as the main body, and covers extensive areas of study, namely as Medicine, Science, Arts, Management, Engineering and Education. In 2017, the university was selected into China “Double First-class” university and Chinese Materia Medica was selected into “Double First-rate” programs.
The University has distinguished teaching staff and sufficient resources for students’ internship. Currently it has two National Key Programs of Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Tuina and TCM Internal Medicine. There are four direct, six non-direct affiliated hospitals, plus 34 clinical teaching hospitals, and five community clinical practice centers. The total construction area is 564,000m2 and the total beds are 4,620. Among them, the First Teaching Hospital is one of the Top 100 Hospitals in China and the National Acupuncture Clinical Research Center and the Second Affiliated Hospital is one of the National TCM Heritage and Innovation Institutions and demonstration hospital; the Fourth Teaching Hospital is a co-construction hospital by the People’s Government of Tianjin Binhai New Area and TUTCM.
The University has extensive international exchanges and cooperation. It aims to cultivate international applied talents in clinic with solid theoretical foundation and excellent clinical skills which make it enjoy a high reputation worldwide. It has formed TCM internationalization talents training system where the bachelor education is the main part. The system also covers master and doctoral education and short and long term certificate studies. As the chair institution of Educational Instruction Committee (EIC), World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS), it has formulated the World Standard of Chinese Medicine Undergraduate (Pre-CMD) Education, which has been formally published by WFCMS and it has become the first standard for TCM international education. The university has an International People-to-People Exchange Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine jointly constructed with China Center for International People-to-People Exchange (CCIPE), Ministry of Health (MOH), has been selected into the first batch of State TCM Services Export Centers by Ministry of Commerce (MOC) and State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SATCM), and the only TCM university in 20+20 Plan for Sino-African Universities by Ministry of Education (MOE). It has the first TCM Confucius Institute in Thailand, the first TCM Confucius Classroom in the world, Kobe School of Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Tuina in Japan and other overseas institutions. TUTCM has cooperative relationships with more than 40 countries or regions in the world and that with University of Nottingham has been listed as one of the state strategy cooperation by both Britain and China.
TUTCM has two campuses in Jinghai and Nankai district respectively. Taking a construction area of over 600,000m2, the main campus of TUTCM is located by Tuanbo Lake in Jinghai District, Tianjin, featured by an in-campus lake view, a symbol of TCM plants and a mainstream of TCM culture. It is a training center for TCM talents, a center for disease prevention by TCM, a center for TCM international education and exchanges, a research center for TCM modernization and a center for TCM culture, together with Tianjin TCM Botonic Garden, Tianjin TCM Museum and etc.

A. Bachelor’s Degree:
i. Senior high school graduates, or those with equivalent degree or above;
ii. Profound chemistry background required for Clinical Pharmacy, Clinical Pharmacy (Joint Education), Chinese Materia Medica, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Preparation, TCM Resources and Development, TCM Pharmaceutics, and Pharmaceutical Engineering;
iii. Excellent English proficiency required for Chinese and Western Clinical Medicine (English) and Clinical Pharmacy (Joint Education).
Notes: *Overseas Chinese applicant who applies for bachelor’s program should hold the foreign citizenship for at least 4 years, during which the applicant should reside in that foreign country for at least 2 years (a continuous stay of 9 months counts as one year, subject to the custom stamp) within recent 4 years (until Apr. 30 of the year).
*Applicants under 18 year-old shall proceed with notarization of the guardians in Tianjin.
B. Academic Master’s Degree:
Applicants should have a Chinese bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree.
i. Medical Degree:
a. Basic Sciences: holder of a Bachelor’s Degree
b. Clinical Sciences (one of the following):
· Holder of a bachelor’s degree in TCM category or Chinese and Western Clinical Medicine;
· Holder of a bachelor’s degree in Clinical Medicine or Basic Sciences category, or a non-medical bachelor’s degree. Those who apply for TCM category, Chinese and Western Clinical Medicine should complete the designated courses in TCM, or have a license in TCM or Acupuncture in their residing country;
c. Chinese Materia Medica requires a bachelor's degree in Chinese Meteria Medica or Pharmacy category, or a related bachelor’s degree.
ii. Non-Medical Category: a bachelor’s degree in related majors.
C. Academic Doctoral Degree (one of the following):
Applicants should have a Chinese master’s degree or equivalent degree.
a. Holder of a master’s degree in TCM or Chinese and Western Clinical Medicine;
