Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Chinese Government Scholarship for Postgraduates Application Introduction for English Program, 2026

Established in 1958, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TUTCM) has been selected into the list of national Double First-Class construction universities, with the subject of Chinese Materia Medica being included in the list of national Double First-Class construction program. It is also among the universities jointly constructed by the Ministry of Education (MOE), the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Tianjin Municipal Peoples Government. It is the only former State Education Commission (Present MOE) approved International University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and also the hosting institution of Educational Instruction Committee of World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (EIC-WFCMS) and Teaching Guidance Committee of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies. TUTCM has always adhered to the  motto of Strengthening moral education and pursuing academic studies, inheriting and innovating, focused on Traditional Chinese Medicine and has six categories including Medicine, Science, Art, Management, Engineering, and Education, with the development strategy of refining medical disciplines, strengthening pharmaceutical disciplines, consolidating health-related majors, and expanding social services, and strove to build a world-class university of traditional medicine with  Chinese characteristics. It has a national Double First-Class construction program of Chinese   Materia Medica, and two national key programs of TCM Internal Medicine and Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Tuina. It is one of the six pilot units for the cultivation of outstanding talents in TCM (straight to Ph.D) by MOE and one of the two Top Students Training Centers 2.0 for Basic Programs in Chinese Materia Meidica in the country. The university has 10 affiliated hospitals and 41 teaching hospitals.

The University has extensive international exchanges and cooperation. It aims to cultivate international applied talents in clinic with solid theoretical foundation and excellent clinical skills which make it enjoy a high reputation worldwide. It has formed TCM internationalization talents training system where the bachelor education is the main part. The system also covers master and doctoral education and short and long term certificate studies. The university has established friendly cooperative relations with institutions of higher education, scientific research institutes and medical institutions in more than 50 countries and regions around the world. It has formulated the first standard for TCM international education World Standard of Chinese Medicine Undergraduate (Pre-CMD) Education, served as the chief editor of 13 textbooks of World Textbook Series for Chinese medicine Core Curriculum, and established the WFCMS Belt and Road Chinese Medicine Education Teacher Training Base (Tianjin). The university now hosts the worlds first Confucius Classroom for Traditional Chinese MedicineConfucius Classroom at Kobe Toyo Medical School, the first Confucius Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine in Thailand, as well as Confucius Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Southern University College in Malaysia. It has jointly offered the undergraduate program in clinical pharmacy with the University of Nottingham in the UK, and been nominated for the Times Higher Education Award for the Best International Collaboration Project.

TUTCM has two campuses: the Tuanbo Campus in Jinghai District and the Yuquan Road Campus in Nankai District, with its main campus in the picturesque area around Tuanbo Lake in Jinghai District,Tianjin, taking an area of 1.4 km2. It has established the Tianjin Botanical Garden of Chinese Medicinal Herbs, the Tianjin Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Science and Technology Park of Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as an internationally influential International Education Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Theories of TCM, Chinese Materia Medica, TCM Prescriptions, Development Progress of TCM Chemistry, Development Progress of TCM Pharmacology, Development Progress of TCM Preparation, Development Progress of TCM Preparation Analysis, Research and Development of TCM New Drugs, Introduction to TCM Resources, Chinese Language and etc.

C. IELTS, TOFEL or any other English proficiency certificate is required. Native English speaker or applicants whose official Language is English can be exempted.

D. For Master’s Applicants (One of the following):

i. Masters Applicants for Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Tuina: Bachelor in Medicine or related subjects

ii. Masters Applicants for Chinese Materia Medica (Chinese Pharmacy): Bachelor in Chinese Materia Medica, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Preparation, Pharmacognosy, Pharmacology or other related majors

E. For Doctoral Applicants (One of the following):

i. Doctoral Applicants for Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Tuina: Master in Medicine or related subjects

ii. Doctoral Applicants for Chinese Materia Medica: Master in Chinese Materia Medica, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Preparation, Pharmacognosy, Pharmacology or other related majors

F. No more than 35 years old for master’s applicants and 40 for doctoral applicants

VI. Expenses excluded in the Scholarship range above should be self-supported. Expenses including but not limited to international tickets, transportation fares overseas or in China, physical examination fee, other related costs will be responsible by the students and detailed information please refer to admission notice. This scholarship is used for studying in TUTCM ONLY and no program transferring permitted after admission. Please refer to the standard which is published by Ministry of Education for the latest standard and rate.

XI. Application Documents Needed (Please submit PDF or JPG scanned copies, items are mandatory. Photos shot by mobile phone camera are invalid. Uncompleted or blurred documents will affect your scholarship application. )

A. NOTARIZED highest diploma in Chinese or English

Prospective diploma recipients must submit official document issued by your current school to prove your current student status or expected graduation date. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

B. NOTARIZED Transcripts in Chinese or English

Transcripts of undergraduate education must be provided for master’s application. Transcripts of undergraduate and postgraduate education must be provided for doctoral application. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

C. Two Recommendation Letters (Written in Chinese or English by 2 different professors or associate professors)

These letters shall describe the applicant’s objectives of studying in China, the cooperation and exchange between the reference or recommending institutes and our university, as well as the evaluation of the applicant’s comprehensive abilities and future growth. (These letters are quite important, please do the preparation carefully.)

D. Study Plan in China or research proposal, not less than 1,000 words. The plan can include, but not limited to your willingness to study in China, description of your professional abilities and  education background, your research proposal and development plan in the future, and etc.  (The plan is quite important, please do the preparation carefully.)

E. English proficiency certificate

IELTS, TOFEL or any other English proficiency certificate is required. Native English speaker or applicants whose official Language is English can be exempted.

F. Photocopy of Valid Passport (The validity date should be late than September, 2026)

G. Photo (2-inch color photos with white background, full face without hat)

H. Foreigner Physical Examination Form (Please ask the doctor to fill in the form in English. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Applicants should have the physical exam later than February 10th th, 2026 and submit the copy before February 28th , 2026. Please bring ALL the original documents and attachments when coming to China.)

I. No Criminal Record Report. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of non-criminal record issued by the local public security authority. It is usually issued within 6 months before the submission date of the application. (If the applicant is not able to provide this document, please contact us to sign and submit a non-criminal record commitment as a substitute.)

J. Pre-admission letter. Please send all your application documents to tutcm@hotmail.com before March 1st, 2026 to apply for your pre-admission letter. The subject of your email name shall be in the form of “nationality + name + major you apply for + degree you apply for + teaching language”. (The pre-admission letter plays an essential part in your scholarship application. The online application is incomplete without this letter.)  

K. Academic papers. (Papers published in high quality journals can help your application.)

L. Other background materials. (Providing certificates of award or professional training, medical practice license, employment certificate, or etc., which can well prove your professional abilities and potential will help your application.)
